Chris Hiatt

Dr. Christopher Hiatt, as a tenured associate professor of mathematics at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, has established a strong record in teaching, scholarship, and service.

·      Received Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Southern California, 2007.

·      Assistant Professor of mathematics at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, 2007 – 2013.

·      Co-Director for four Teacher Quality grants from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, 2008 – Present.

·      Develops and leads yearlong professional development workshops for High School, Middle School and Elementary school mathematics teachers in 8 school districts as part of his duties as co-project director for Teacher Quality grants to improve mathematics teachers’ content and pedagogy knowledge, 2008 – Present

·      AVID Advisory Committee at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, 2009 – Present.

·      Part of a regional Vertical Alignment Team and the College and Career Readiness task force, 2010 – Present.

·      Developed and taught six online graduate mathematics courses at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, 2010 – Present.

·      Co-lead a two-week seminar during June 2011 for a National Science Foundation grant to increase content knowledge of in-service middle school mathematics teachers

·      Developed and implemented a new Masters of Mathematics program at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin with two tracks: Mathematics and Mathematics Education, 2011.

·      Won the University of Texas System Regents Outstanding Teaching Award, 2012.

·      Tenured as associate professor of mathematics at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, 2013 - Present.

·      Director of the Graduate Mathematics program at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, 2013 – Present.

·      Southwest Regional Director of the Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics, 2014 – Present.

·      President of the School board of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin STEM Academy, 2015 – Present.
