Mary Alice Hatchett for President-Elect

Mary Alice Hatchett has served as TCTM’s Director of Publications for the past nine years. She has focused on increasing the number of teacher authors in the Texas Mathematics Teacher by inviting and encouraging teachers to write on their classroom experiences. Mary Alice also writes for the Recommended Readings and Where’s the Math columns in the journal. Mary Alice has been an invited speaker at the annual Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching (CAMT), RGVCTM, A2CTM, ASCD, NTTI, PBS, ESCs and TEPSA. She has also been accepted to speak at NCTM National and Regional Conferences. As an education consultant for teachers K-12, she supports mathematics teachers with aligning their instruction to the TEKS and preparing mathematics instruction that meets the needs of all learners. Mary Alice is currently an independent mathematics consultant and has been the Director of K-12 mathematics for Round Rock ISD and a K-12 mathematics consultant for ESC Region XIII. She has served as a contributing author and master trainer for many math instructional activities including Making Math Memorable, TEXTEAMS, TEA Algebra 1 End-Of-Course, TEA Math TAAS 3-5,TEA Math TAAS 6-8, Guerilla Tactics for 8th grade TAAS-Mathematics, Uncovering Math with Your Family for Texas Instruments and Texas Math K-5 for Houghton Mifflin. She is a trainer for Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) and Thinking Mathematically: Integrating Arithmetic & Algebra in Elementary School.

Mary Alice is currently serving on the Program Committee for CAMT 2012. She has served as President of the Texas Association of Supervisors of Mathematics, and is currently a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM), Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (TCTM), Austin Area Council of Teachers of Mathematics (A2CTM), and TODOS: Mathematics for All. She has been President of A2CTM and remains active in A2CTM as the NCTM representative at the NCTM annual delegate assembly. She has a BA in mathematics and psychology from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, TX; mathematics teacher certification from The University of Texas at Austin; and a MEd in curriculum and instruction from The University of Texas at Austin. She is a proud mother and wife and currently lives in Georgetown, TX. If elected, Mary Alice will work to further TCTM’s mission and goals and support Texas mathematics teachers
