Spring 2011 Elections Shere Salinas for South Regional Director Shere Haigh-Salinas is focused on improving mathematics education. As a secondary mathematics specialist for Corpus Christi ISD, she has the opportunity to work with approximately 180 secondary mathematics teachers. She continuously strives to improve the district curriculum documents to ensure they provide appropriate direction for addressing the TEKS and College and Career Readiness Standards. She seeks to deliver meaningful and timely professional development opportunities to assist teachers as we work together to meet the needs of students. She has facilitated the process to obtain four Algebra Readiness Grants and manage the grant budgets of over 1.2 million dollars. As an adjunct professor at Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi, she works to prepare future teachers to teach mathematics at both the elementary and middle school levels. Twice she has been the recipient of the Texas A&M University System Teaching Excellence Award. Shere is a National Board Certified Teacher of Early Adolescence Mathematics. She is the Vice-president of the Coastal Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and previously served as secretary. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi, which is where she obtained her master’s degree in mathematics. Her undergraduate degree is from Michigan State University. She has 22 years of teaching experience ranging from first through eighth grade in Texas public schools. [return to elections main page] |
