Christopher HiattChristopher Hiatt for Vice-President Secondary

Christopher Hiatt received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Southern California in August of 2007. He is the Co-Director for two grants from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and Co-Principal Investigator for one grant from the National Science Foundation. He develops and leads professional development workshops for mathematics teachers as part of his duties as co-project director for a Teacher Quality grant to improve in-service high school mathematics teachers’ content knowledge.  He has co-lead a two-week seminar during June 2011 for an NSF grant to increase content knowledge of in-service middle school mathematics teachers.  He has given twelve special topic seminars for a Teacher Quality grant targeted at increasing in-service mathematics teacher’s pedagogical and content knowledge. Dr. Hiatt is also part of the regional Vertical Alignment Team and the College and Career Readiness task force. Dr. Hiatt has built a strong record of collaborating with K-12 mathematics teachers over the past three years as part of a number of initiatives and is highly respected among ESC Region 18 districts.

He has been part of a team of three professors who developed and implemented a new Masters of Mathematics program at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin which has two tracks: Mathematics or Mathematics Education. He is the Advisor for 16 graduate students and 20 undergraduate students. He has published a work in the field of Quantum Teichmuller Theory, which is a field related to Quantum Physics.  As a tenure-track assistant professor since 2007 he has established a strong record in teaching, scholarship, and service to UTPB.
